THE SMITHS

HERE THEY ARE: Morrissey , Johnny Marr, Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce

MY FAVOURITE BAND.

As Betty mentioned in her blog one of my favourite bands is The Smiths. I am very fond of rock music and different shapes of rock. I do not know a lot about music styles but at least I can distinguish between rock and non-rock ( or at least I hope I do so...). The Smiths, were an English rock band formed in Manchester in 1982. The band consisted of Morrissey ( lyrics + vocals), Johnny Marr (guitar), Andy Rourke (bass) and Mike Joyce (drums). Their music represented an alternative rock and they gained popularity by Morrissey's songs about alienation and loneliness and Marr's guitar-based complex melodies. Maybe I should tell you how I came across such "dinosaurs"? Well, it happened quite a long time ago, when I was in one of the fancy East End London's pubs with my Columbian friend Ramiro. As usually we were having a great conversation accompanied by couple of pints and suddenly I heard a song which I really liked but had no idea what it was. Fortunately it was coming from the jukebox so my friend found out for me what it was. The song was "This Charming Man" by The Smiths. I fell in love with the band straight away.I cannot say which song is my favourite but one of my bestiest is "There is a light that never goes out". If you do not enjoy the music I hope you will enjoy the lyrics which I just love!!!

I am sick of it!!!!

People,

I am sick of being ill,
I am sick of coughing, blowing my nose,
I am sick of headaches, fever, asthma and my alergies!!!!!

I am honestly, truly sick of it!!!

As my usual in December, I spent my free time in bed with high temperature and disgusting coughs.

Now, I will have to get back to normal. I promise to do it as soon as I can.

The antibiotics work so I shall be better soon. :)

Happy Christmas to everyone!!!!!!!

Inowrocław.
Whenever I tell somebody where I come from the reaction to it is usually as follows: 'O.K. so you come from Wrocław.' And then I have to explain that there is this little "prefix" INO and that this tiny little thing makes a huge difference (doesn't it?). And, usually after this correction, comes my explanation: 'It is close to Toruń and Bydgoszcz.'

And what is Inowrocław all about?
It is a place where I was born and where my family and friends are. And this is the place where I can take a break from my grown-up life. It is a town that I left without the feeling of sadness. (I knew I would not be happy there any more.)

Today, when I meet with a bunch of my best friends, we spend hours laughing at the stupid things we did together in the town. Stealing apples and pears from somebody's garden (we were so poor then that we could not afford to buy anything but the cheapest still water from 'Biedronka') or playing truant (10 o'clock in the morning you could meet us drinking 'tea' in a bar called '2+1')...

And in the picture above you can see romanesque church of the St Virgin Mary, dating back to the end of the 12th century or beginning of the 13th century, built from granite stones and bricks.

There is one feature that distinguishes this church from other churches and you can see it in the picture on your right. Among ordinary stones of which this church is built, you can see stones with images of satan's face carved on them.
They are supposed to represent the evil spirits waiting just outside the door of the church - a shelter for weak and malleable people which are not able to resist any earthly temptation.
